There are several entrances to Crater Lake that are open to the public. The main entrance is located at the north end of the lake and is the only entrance that allows vehicles. The other entrances are located on the east, south, and west sides of the lake and are accessible by foot or boat only.
The entrance to Wizard Island is currently the only one that is open.

Which entrance to Crater Lake is best
The most convenient way to get to Crater Lake National Park is from the west and south on Ore 62. This road runs through the southwest corner of the park and provides easy access to all the best sights and attractions.
The North Umpqua River flows through a beautiful, ancient forest and provides many opportunities for recreation. The Park is located on both sides of the river and offers camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, and swimming. To get there from the north, take Interstate 5 to Roseburg, then take Oregon 138 east to the park’s north entrance. From the south, take I-5 north to Medford, then take Oregon 62 north and east to the park’s west entrance (which is open year round).
How do you get to Crater Lake south entrance?
If you are coming from the northwest, the best way to get to the park’s South Entrance is to take Highway 62. If the North Entrance is closed, you can continue on Highway 230 to Highway 62 and enter the park through the West Entrance.
If you’re looking to hike the park’s trails, you’ll need to wait until the snow has melted. typically, the trails are covered in deep snow from May to June, making them difficult or dangerous to hike.
What time should you get to Crater Lake?
Come early to avoid the crowds and enjoy the peace and quiet of the park before the sun rises. The average annual snowfall in the park is 43 feet, so you’re likely to see a few snowflakes if you come early enough. Plus, given that the elevation of the lake’s rim is 7000 to 8000 feet, snow clouds that move through the park can completely hide the lake from view, so it’s worth getting up early to see it.
If you are planning on visiting Crater Lake, the only way to get around the lake is by driving the Rim Road. I would recommend starting early in the morning and driving the road clockwise. There are many lookout points along the road that offer stunning views of the lake with very little effort.
Can you drive through Crater Lake
Circumnavigating Crater Lake by car takes at least two hours. Be aware that traffic goes in both directions on Rim Drive, which is often shared with bicyclists. The road is narrow, winding, and does not have shoulders, so be cautious and take your time. Enjoy the amazing views of the lake and its surroundings!
The Lake Scenic Drive is a great way to see the beautiful blue lake from many different angles. The drive is mostly clockwise to make it easier to access the scenic viewpoints. The conditions are great, and there are many hidden trails and overlooks to explore along the way.

Crater Lake National Park is home to the deepest lake in the United States and is a popular tourist destination for its incredible views. Although the lake is the main attraction, there is much more to the park than just the lake. There are short hikes and scenic drives that can be completed in just a day.

Can you get down to the water at Crater Lake
The Cleetwood Cove Trail is the only place where it is safe and legal to get down to the lake shore. The trail usually opens late June. Please be sure to follow all posted signs and stay on the trail to avoid any hazards.

Can you walk into Sunset Crater?
