Crater Lake is an absolutely stunning sight; it took our breath away the minute we saw it. It is definitely worth the trip to see it in person. It’s also possible to drive the entire rim, stopping at most of the look-out points, within a few hours. We hiked down towards the water, but quite frankly, the view is even more incredible from the top. If you have the chance to visit, don’t miss it!

Can you do a day trip to Crater Lake from Portland?

If you want to experience all that Crater Lake has to offer, it’s best to give yourself some time and take the road trip over a weekend or a few days. That way, you can enjoy the drive and make plenty of stops along the way. The trip from Portland to Crater Lake is 250 miles and will take you about 4 hours 30 minutes of driving, although if you factor in breaks, it will definitely take a bit longer. But it’s worth it to see one of the most stunning natural wonders in the country!
