Location and History

Lake Superior State University (LSSU) is a public university located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Founded in 1946 as Michigan College of Mining and Technology, LSSU educates over 3,000 students seeking undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of disciplines.
The University was formed to help build the economy of the region. It was accredited already in the 1960s. In 1970, it was renamed as Lake Superior State College and it achieved university status in June 1987. The University has since gained professional accreditations from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the American Networks of Colleges and Schools, and the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.

Campus

LSSU is in a peaceful, residential and park-like environment which includes several large lakes and forests, on campus. One of the beautiful landmarks is a large statue called the “Laker Man”. It’s a symbol for the college’s spirit and serves as a reminder of the strength of its natural resources.
