We drove the 33 mile Rim Road and it was magnificent. The views were breathtaking and we were able to see Crater Lake with very little effort. Highly recommend starting early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Can you do a day trip to Crater Lake from Portland
If you’re planning on driving from Portland to Crater Lake, be aware that the trip is 250 miles and will take approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. However, this doesn’t account for any stops you might make along the way, so factor in additional time if you plan on taking breaks. Although it’s possible to drive the route in half a day, it’s more enjoyable to spread the trip out over a weekend or a few days.
The park has more than 90 miles of hiking trails, but in May and June they are typically covered by deep snow. When snow-covered, most trails are either too difficult to follow or too dangerous. avalanche danger is also a real concern in the spring. hikers should check with the park ranger station before heading out on any trails.
