The Crater Lake Lodge is open from mid-May to mid-October and reservations are strongly recommended. The Mazama Village Motor Inn is open from late May to early October and the Mazama Campground is open from late May to early October, weather permitting.

How long does Crater Rim Drive take
The drive down to the coast is about 61 km and takes around 90 minutes to complete. The road is covered in lava from a previous eruption in 1986, and is impassable in some areas. Allow two hours for the round trip, depending on how often you stop and how far you hike.
The summers at Crater Lake are notoriously short, but still offer plenty of sunny days to enjoy the natural wonders of the area. July, August, and September are your best bets for warm, dry weather, but even in May, June, and October you can expect periods of sun in between the rain and snow. Whichever season you visit, be sure to come prepared for all weather conditions!

Though there are many different species of snakes, the only one that have been found alive in Crater Lake National Park is Fitch’s Barter Snake. Thamnophis sirtalis fitchi Fox is a species of snake that is native to the area and is the only one that has been found in the park.
Is there lava under Crater Lake?
The Llao Rock layer is the oldest layer of lava flows and is about 575,000 years old. The Wizard Island Lava flow is the next oldest and is about 140,000 years old. The youngest lava flow is the Collier Cone Lava flow, which is only about 4,800 years old.
Planning to drive the Rim Road at Crater Lake National Park? Here are a few things to keep in mind:
-The only way to circumvent Crater Lake is to drive the 33 mile Rim Road. If you are starting early in the morning (around 6:30 am), it is recommended to do this clockwise.
-There are various lookout points and overlooks which allow for magnificent views with very little effort.
-Please be aware of weather conditions and plan accordingly – the road may close due to snowfall or other hazardous conditions.
