We have single kayaks, 2 seater kayaks (tandem), and stand up paddle boards available for rent. Guests are welcome to take the boats to one of the many lakes or rivers in our region. If you’re not equipped to haul the equipment, we also offer delivery and pick up at the Rocky Point boat launch.

When should you not go to Crater Lake?
The park has more than 90 miles of hiking trails, but in May and June they are typically covered by deep snow. When snow-covered, most trails are either too difficult to follow, or too dangerous.
Crater Lake is one of the snowiest places in America, with an average of 43 feet of snow per year. This means that there are only a few months when people can swim at the lake, usually from June through September.
Why are there no boats on Crater Lake?
There are no roads to the lake surface, so a winch will be required to lower boats to the lake below. This is because the caldera is very steep and there are no roads that lead to the lake surface.
Hydrothermal explosions, ash/tephra fall, pyroclastic surges, lahars, and landslides and rockfalls are all potential dangers associated with volcanoes. It is important to be aware of these dangers and have a plan in place in case of an emergency.
Is the Crater Lake trolley worth it
I am so glad I decided to take this tour! Driver Richard was great and ranger Joel from Nebraska was also excellent. The several stops were beautiful and it was so interesting to learn about the history of certain areas that I would have otherwise never known about. It was definitely worth it!
The Sun Notch Viewpoint is a great place to see Phantom Ship Island, which is the only other island in Crater Lake. You can’t actually access Phantom Ship, but the Sun Notch Viewpoint offers the best view of it.
Are there bears in Crater Lake?
The only bear species found at Crater Lake are black bears. They are generally afraid of humans and will run away if you make noise, but will protect themselves if they or their cubs are threatened.
This is the only place in the park where swimming is allowed, and it is also the only place where there is a in the water. The trail to the cove is about a mile long, and it is a strenuous hike down to the water. But, it is worth it when you get to take a dip in the refreshing water of Crater Lake!
How much time should you spend at Crater Lake
Crater Lake is a beautiful place and it is definitely worth spending at least one full day and one night there. Getting to the park can be a bit of a hassle, but once you’re there, it’s definitely worth it. There are long lines to get into the actual park, but once you’re in, you won’t want to leave. There are plenty of things to do and see, so you won’t be bored.
The water is pretty cold. The average temperature (below 300 feet deep) is 38°. In the summer, the surface can warm up to 55° or 60°.
Do I need a reservation for Crater Lake?
This is a great park to visit if you don’t need to make any reservations! You can just show up and enjoy the scenery. The park is usually open from sunrise to sunset.
