Few people realize that one of North America’s largest cities lies on the northern shore of Lake Superior, North America’s largest, deepest, by volume, and coldest of the Great Lakes. That city is Duluth, Minnesota, and it’s full of adventure and excitement!

Duluth’s Lake Superior harbor was once the busiest port on the Great Lakes and is still home to several large maritime businesses. Affectionately known as the ‘Zenith City,’ Duluth culminates nearly two centuries of industry, architecture, and natural wonders. The city’s influence can be felt across both the US and the entire Great Lakes region.

At over 288 square miles, Duluth is much larger than most people realize. With a population of just over 86,000 people, the city stretches nearly 95 miles along the lake, making it the largest city on the edge of Lake Superior.

In the past, Duluth was an important port in shipping ore, grain, and limestone. While much of that industry is gone, Duluth is still very much a working-class city, and its port economy helped sustain it through hard times.
