Crater Lake National Park is an American national park located in southern Oregon. Established in 1902, Crater Lake National Park is the fifth-oldest national park in the United States and the only national park in Oregon. The park encompasses the caldera of Crater Lake, a remnant of a destroyed volcano, Mount Mazama, and the surrounding hills and forests.

During the summertime, the weather is ideal for hiking, boating, and camping around the lake. However, the park is only open during certain months out of the year due to the heavy snowfall in the winter. The park typically opens up in early July and closes in mid-October, depending on the weather conditions.

The season for Crater Lake National Park generally starts around Memorial Day Weekend and ends around mid-October.

What is the best time of year to visit Crater Lake?

If you’re planning to visit Crater Lake, the best time to do so is during the summer months of July, August, and September. That’s when the park is fully open and all the roads, trails, and facilities are available. May and June are transitional months, as winter slowly gives way to summer.
