Despite the many other names for this lake, Jim Sutton finally named it “Crater Lake” for the crater on top of Wizard Island in his article describing his exploration inside the lake. William Gladstone Steel is credited with the founding of Crater Lake National Park.<\/p>\n

Swimming at Crater Lake is only possible during a few months out of the year because of the extreme winter season. On average, 43 feet of snow fall in the region annually, making it one of the snowiest places in America. Visitors can typically swim in the lake from June through September.<\/p>\n

There is only one place where it is safe and legal to get down to the lake shore and swim at Crater Lake National Park and that is the Cleetwood Cove Trail. The trail usually opens mid to late June.<\/p>\n

Crater Lake is a naturally occurring phenomena that was created by a volcano. The lake is home to a variety of different fish that have been introduced over the years. The first recorded stocking of the lake was by William Steel in 1888. The lake has been stocked with a variety of differentfish over the years, however, the last stocking occurred in 1941.<\/p>\n

The park’s water claim for the lake is for the preservation and protection of all natural habitats and the conservation of scenery. It is not for human consumption. Therefore, consuming Crater Lake water would conflict with the park’s mission to preserve the lake.<\/p>\n

Will Crater Lake erupt again <\/h3>\n

The long history of volcanic activity at Crater Lake suggests that this area is still volcanically active and future eruptions are likely. Most of the recent eruptions have occurred on the lake floor in the western part of the caldera, so future eruptions are more likely to occur in that same area than farther east.<\/p>\n

Crater Lake is an absolutely beautiful place, and it’s fascinating to think about the history of the area. It’s incredible to think about the power of the volcanic eruption that created the crater, and the size of the crater is really impressive. It’s definitely a place worth visiting, and I’m glad I had the chance to see it.
