Crater Lake is a caldera lake located in southern Oregon, in the western United States. It is the deepest lake in the country and one of the deepest in the world. Crater Lake was formed 7,700 years ago when the 12,000-foot tall Mount Mazama suddenly collapsed following a cataclysmic volcanic eruption. It took hundreds of years for the crater to fill with water, eventually becoming the stunning lake that we see today.<\/p>\n

Calderas are large, crater-like depressions that form following the eruption of a volcano.
