There are a few reasons why confederate gold has never been found in large quantities. First, much of it was likely melted down and used for other purposes after the Civil War. In 1865, two and a half buried ingots were found in a field in England. Later, the bones of three to five human skeletons were found in the same area. The rest of the gold remains missing.
