Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and the only one located entirely within the United States. The lake is shared by the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. It has a surface area of over 22,300 square miles and a coastline of nearly 3,000 miles. <\/p>\n

There are many beaches along the shores of Lake Michigan where people can swim. In the summer, the water is warm and perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and playing in the waves. There are also many public and private pools in the area.<\/p>\n

The Chicago Park District operates 26 beaches along the shores of Lake Michigan, from North Avenue Beach in the north to 63rd Street Beach in the south.<\/p>\n

Is it OK to swim in Lake Michigan? <\/h2>\n

Swimming in Lake Michigan is an ‘at your own risk’ activity. All beaches managed by Milwaukee County parks do NOT have lifeguards. For current water quality reports along Lake Michigan visit the Wisconsin Beach Health website for water-quality reports.<\/p>\n
