Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is the second-largest of the Great Lakes by volume (4,920 cubic miles or km3) and the third-largest by surface area (22,404 square miles or 58,030 km2). It is shared by the United States (states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana) and Canada (Province of Ontario). Lake Michigan is the only one of the Great Lakes wholly within the borders of the United States. The lake is situated north of Lake Huron, east of Lake Superior, and southwest of Lake Erie.<\/p>\n
