Crater Lake National Park is home to a variety of animals, including bears. While the park does not have a large population of bears, they are sometimes seen in the area.

There are no bears at Crater Lake Oregon.

Are there grizzly bears in Crater Lake?

Black bears were still present in the early 1900s but their numbers had declined (Merriam 1897, Gilliam 1906). In 1974, the National Park Service (NPS) conducted a study of black bears in Crater Lake National Park (CLNP) and determined that the population had increased and was healthy (Herrero et al. 1976).

The study found that there were an estimated 35-40 black bears in the park and that they were using a wide variety of habitats. The bears were found to be most active in the early morning and late evening hours and spent the majority of the day resting in trees or dense brush.
