Crater Lake is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Oregon, drawing over a million visitors each year. The lake is situated in a caldera, or crater, created by the collapse of a volcano. The cliffs that surround the lake are up to 2,000 feet high, and the lake itself is nearly 2,000 feet deep. Because of its depth and location, Crater Lake is one of the clearest and deepest lakes in the world.

Crater Lake is Oregon’s only national park and is one of the country’s most beautiful places. The lake is so blue that it looks like a painting. It is surrounded by cliffs and there are no roads to the lake. The only way to get there is to hike or take a boat.

Because of its remote location, Crater Lake is not as crowded as some of the other national parks. On a busy day, you might see a few hundred people at the lake. But, most of the time, you will have the place to yourself.

When should you not go to Crater Lake?

The park has more than 90 miles of hiking trails, but in May and June they are typically covered by deep snow. When snow-covered, most trails are either too difficult to follow, or too dangerous. However, the park does offer some winter activities, such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
