Crater Lake is a caldera lake located in southern Oregon in the western United States. It is the seventh deepest lake in the world at 1,949 feet (594 meters), and the deepest in the contiguous United States. Crater Lake is also the ninth deepest lake by average depth in the world. The lake partially fills a nearly 2,148-foot (655 meters) deep caldera that was formed around 7,700 (± 150) years ago by the collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama.<\/p>\n
